About Sam

State Rep. Samantha Steckloff has dedicated her life to public service, solving problems, and getting results for Michigan.

Growing up in Farmington Hills, she learned the importance of community and giving back from her parents. Her mother, a former Mayor and State Representative, demonstrated what it  means to lead with integrity and purpose, and her father worked to ensure workers had a strong voice and fair representation as a labor attorney. Together, they instilled in Sam the values of service to one’s community and for others, not self-interest.

Eager to give back to her community after graduating from Purdue University, Sam served for seven years on the Farmington Hills City Council. During her time on Council, she earned a reputation as a consensus builder who brings people to get things done – from strengthening city services to expanding sustainable community initiatives to expanding opportunities for residents to engage directly with city government.

Elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2020, Sam is delivering thoughtful leadership and practical solutions on behalf of our communities. She serves on the House Appropriations Committee, focused on delivering a sustainable state budget that works for everyone. Her work has centered on responsible investments, long-term fiscal stability, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively to strengthen Michigan’s communities.

Throughout her time in office, Sam has earned multiple recognitions as “Legislator of the Year” and is consistently ranked among the most effective legislators in Lansing. She takes pride in building coalitions, listening to constituents, and approaching every challenge with the belief that government should improve people’s everyday lives.

Her commitment to public service is deeply personal. As a breast cancer survivor, Sam understands the real-life challenges many families face when it comes to health care, financial security, and balancing everyday responsibilities. That experience reinforced her belief that leadership should always be grounded in empathy, compassion, and action.

Beyond her public service, Sam served as the Manager of Admissions at Wayne State University, seeing firsthand the challenges students and families face navigating higher education affordability and opportunity. That experience continues to shape her commitment to creating pathways for success for Michigan families.

Now, Samantha is running for re-election because she believes Michigan’s best days are still ahead. She remains committed to building a future where every person has the opportunity to succeed and where government works to support families, strengthen communities, and create lasting opportunity for everyone.
