Farmington Hills Democrat, Steckloff Eyes Open 37th House District Seat

Campaign Launches July 24th at Governor Warner Mansion

Farmington Hills, MI, July 17, 2019: On July 24th, Farmington Hills City Council Member Samantha Steckloff will kick off her campaign to become the newest Democratic representative for Michigan’s 37th House District; current representative Christine Greig is ineligible to run for the seat again due to term limits. Steckloff will meet with residents and supporters at the Governor Warner Mansion in Farmington from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm to discuss their concerns and share her vision for Michigan.

Steckloff has served two terms on the Farmington Hills City Council, and plans to take her health care, education, and workers rights-focused platform to Lansing. “I’m running because I’m facing the same challenges as everyone else: trying to plan for the future while working hard to get ahead today. And I believe our government can help.” she says. A long-time public servant and breast cancer survivor, Steckloff aims to improve the health of communities as a whole by tackling a range of pressing issues. As she explains, “it’s not just about making health care more affordable or investing in our education system. Creating a healthy community means looking at the big picture and boosting our residents’ well-being in all areas, from the environment we live in to the job opportunities we have.”

During her first city council term, Steckloff launched the Farmington Hills Community Health Commission, which offers education and wellness services and gives the council important information about residents’ needs. The commission has encouraged city leaders to prioritize health-related initiatives and led to partnerships with Beaumont Farmington Hills and other local organizations. “When we prepared to launch, we learned a lot about our citizens’ health status and the gaps in the programming available to them,” Steckloff notes. “Now we have a forum to help us effectively promote wellness across our community.”

Steckloff, a Farmington Hills native, returned to Michigan after college eager to take the leap into local politics. She is energized by her goal of helping Michigan communities thrive, today and tomorrow: “I love Michigan, and I couldn’t imagine settling down and raising a family anywhere else,” Steckloff says. “To keep growing, we need to be strategic and future-oriented. I want to give people a reason to come to Michigan and to stay here.” To learn more about the Samantha Steckloff campaign, visit https://www.samanthasteckloff.com/.
